Fortunately, there is no hour limit for medical students...otherwise my school might be in trouble:
-On for the next 7 days in a row
-42 hours of call (18 on Sunday, 24 next Saturday)
-70 hours of regular work week
-1 midway evaluation meeting with the clerkship director who will be getting an ear full about how disorganized his program, his residents and his secretary are, my 112 hour work week.
-1 sleepy Bostonian who is working nearly 3 normal person work weeks in the span of one and will be living off of nothing but caffeine, crappy cafeteria food and sarcasm come Friday evening.
By far, this may be the longest week of my life.
But, if I make it out alive I'm rewarded with 2 weeks at the Private-yuppie Hospital in the breast/plastics practice. Should be a nice change from the hellish County Hospital that has eroded my sanity/personal life/sleep hygiene for the past 5 weeks.
Catch ya'll on the flip side next week if I'm not in 4 point restraints by the end of the week.

Good luck with that. May the force be with you.
Fun times. There is something to be said for starting in the fire... it will make what comes next seem easier.
I hate to admit it, but it was the runners world article that made me do it...I played right into their marketing scheme...damn them!
Oh and could you please hurry up and become a sports med running specialist so I can harass you for free internet consults regarding my acute lateral plantar foot pain????
Thanks, that'd be appreciated...
Unfortunately there aren't rules for med students - that's where they should really focus if they're concerned. You're a *student* not a resident. There is really no reason to be in the hospital that long as a 3rd year. No reason.
Thanks LC...fam med up next...should be fun in comparison.
RAG-I'll have a post on the hours issue/my frustrations with my surgery rotation when I'm less tired. I spoke with my clerkship director for my midway eval and while I'm doing well on the rotation thus far, although I wouldn't have known it. I expressed my displeasure at my lack of direction/guidance thus far to the clerkship director and was met with excuses, so nothing's going to get changed. This is a fluke week due to a scheduling SNAFU by the coordinator and I'll just suck it up for the next few days until I can relax with breast/plastic surgery and a 20 hour work week and study for my shelf/hang out on a couple of my preceptor's liver cases. Like a kidney stone through a ureter, this too shall pass.
